If you have spent much time with older people, you know their conversation can often center upon ailments and illnesses. One thing I have noticed older people say during some of those discussions is how in their mind they don't feel old. I remember an older relative once saying, “My body is definitely old but, in my mind, in terms of how I feel as a person, I’m no different than I was when I was 30 or 40.” This is one of those little mysteries of life. Another is how we perceive the passage of time. At the beginning of life, time seems to crawl. Those few years in school seem like an eternity. As we near the last parts of life, time seems to fly by. This is also influenced by our experience at the moment. A boring job or a bad cold can make time seem to stand still. A fascinating job or joyful day with a loved one can seem to pass in the blink of an eye. It’s another one of those life mysteries that we all experience to some degree but which no one can explain.
