Gradually Then Suddenly

In Ernest Hemingway’s classic The Sun Also Rises, Bill asks Mike, “How did you go bankrupt?” Mike replies, “Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.” Life often works that way. Mistakes build slowly, barely noticeable at first, until we find ourselves dealing with a major problem. That is the way of the world (1 John 2:15-17).
