“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” — Romans 5:10 (NIV)
How Much More: The Joy of Being His
Have you ever noticed how, when Paul really wants to make a point, he has the amazing ability to pack a whole story inside a single verse. He begins with a hard truth: we were all once enemies of God. But even then, while we were still resisting Him, Jesus died for us. He didn’t wait for us to clean up or come around. At the cross, God made the first move. He reconciled.
Reconciliation is more than forgiveness. It’s the restoring of relationships. Through Jesus’ death, we were not just declared “not guilty.” We were welcomed to a new family. The wall between God and us came crashing down, not because we figured things out, but because He sent His Son to bring us home.
And yet, Paul doesn’t stop there. He points us forward with a phrase that bursts with comfort - “how much more…” It’s a phrase that poses a life changing question, one that can only be answered by faith:
If God already met your greatest need before you even asked—what do you think He’s doing for you right now?
If God loved us while we were still against Him, how much more can we trust Him now that we’ve been made His own? If Jesus' death was powerful enough to reconcile enemies, what will His risen life do for beloved sons and daughters?
Here’s the good news: Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. He rose in power, and He lives forever—not just for His own glory, but for your salvation. He is at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you even now (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25). He is not the Savior who was, but the Savior who is—present, powerful, and faithful.
That means your salvation isn’t fragile. It’s not hanging by a thread or resting on your ability to keep it all together. It is anchored in the unshakable love of Christ. You are not holding on to God—He is holding on to you.
So, rejoice today, Christian. You’ve already been reconciled. And because Jesus lives, you are saved completely. Whatever doubts you face, whatever fears whisper otherwise, let the truth in the question steady your soul: If He gave everything to save you then, how much more is He saving you from right now?
