A Mother's Spiritual Hug
People have called the church “Holy Mother Church.” We don't know who said it first. Some say it was Cyprian. Others say Augustine. This phrase has lasted from early Christian days: “Who does not have the church as his mother does not have God as his Father.” Since early times, the church has been called “mother” by some in the faith. In Ephesians 2:19–21, it says, “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.”
