Here is the first edition of a new Sunday mini post at Christian Soldier 21.
Most Christians can quote John 3:16 from memory:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
But have you ever read 1 John 3:16 alongside it?
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (1 John 3:16)
One reveals God’s gift of love to us. The other calls us to reflect that love in how we live. The two verses echo each other beautifully—one proclaiming the gospel, the other showing its impact.
Here’s the thing: John didn’t write in verses. In the original manuscripts, there were no chapters or verses. Those divisions weren’t added until over 1,000 years later—chapter numbers in the 13th century, and verse numbers in the mid-1500s. They were tools added by scholars and printers to help readers find their way around Scripture more easily.
So the fact that these two verses—John 3:16 and 1 John 3:16—line up so perfectly? Is that just a neat coincidence? Or is it a quiet trace of something bigger, like God’s hand guiding not just the writing of Scripture, but its preservation, its structure, even its readability for generations to come?
Not everything amazing comes with flashing lights. Sometimes the glory is in the details.
