What does the advent season mean to you? Many people simply regard it as the holiday season, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many Christians know it to be a special season in our churches filled with Christmas music and theatrical productions of the first Christmas story. Today I would like to offer you some additional perspective on the special season that we are now in the middle of.

Have you ever been to a final playoff football game with a group of friends? Let me tell you a unique story of the experience. After a hard-fought season of wins and losses "our team" has finally made it to the game that will decide who plays for the championship. As we wait for the game to start, stories abound of the highs and lows of the season and of "J.C.", the beloved quarterback who has led the team this far. Our team receives the opening kickoff and everyone cheers as the legendary quarterback takes the field for the first play. After the snap he is tackled by four huge players. Hear…
